Green Rows Of Waltham "ground rules"

Gardeners agree to abide by these rules:

• Gardeners must weed their plots and ready them for planting by June 1st.
• At the end of the season, plots are to be cleaned up by Nov. 30.
• If you have a problem adhering to these dates and/or need assistance during the season, you must contact a steering committee member or a section coordinator so that solutions can be worked out & gardens are not left unattended.
• Gardeners must maintain their plots regularly and are responsible for weeding the walkways around their plots. Everyone must participate in some share of the organized work (i.e.: composting, construction, shed clean-up, hose care, etc.)
• This is an all-organic garden. Only organic pesticides & fertilizers may be used. No herbicides, animal pest poisons, or pressure-treated wood may be used. No genetically altered seed.
• You must park on the grass on the edge of the parking lot near the brick building. People with disabilities may park at the garden by requesting a permit from the steering committee. Otherwise, cars are only allowed at the garden for loading and unloading, not for parking (at the request of U-Mass).
• Avoid wasteful use of water. Do not flood your plot, and donÕt water other gardens unless you are asked. When you finish watering, turn off the water at individual spigots, then open the nozzle to drain water left in the hose. Turn off the water at the hydrant when youÕre the last to leave in the afternoon/evening.
• Be sure to lock the shed when you are the last to leave the garden. The combination is the same as last year's, plus 1
• Gardeners are responsible for their guests. Children under 14 must be with an adult.
• If someone besides you is helping maintain your plot on a regular basis, you must inform a section coordinator or a steering committee member. For the safety of all gardeners and to keep pilferage to a minimum, please get to know your plot neighbors so we all are keeping a watchful eye.
• Only organic matter, dead plants, clippings and weeds may be added to the compost. Other trash must be taken home.
• Please heed the section coordinators. They have volunteered to help us maintain the cooperative & organic standards we agree to in using a GROW plot.
• Border plantings outside of garden plots must be limited to small flowers & bulbs: No large-growing shrubs, sunflowers, rosebushes, etc.
• Berry plots are for BERRY PLANTS and companions - not for vegetable gardening.
• No tearing out trees and other growth in the areas bordering berry plots.
• Gardeners must leave the garden area when the field nearby is being mowed.

VIOLATIONS OF THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN LOSING YOUR PLOT
GROW's gardens are located on University of Massachusetts Waltham Center land. The University is not responsible for crop damage or pilferage.
